How to Make an Instagram 3x3 Grid (Free, No App)
2026-07-10
You've probably seen an Instagram profile where several posts line up into one big picture. That's a grid feed (also called a 3×3 or "puzzle" feed), and it's a favorite trick of brands and aesthetic accounts.
The idea is simple
You take one large photo, cut it into 9 tiles (3×3), and post them in order so the profile grid reassembles the original image.
The tricky part is cutting exactly into 9 equal pieces by hand. An automatic splitter does it in a couple of clicks.
How to make a grid
1. Open the Instagram Grid tool. 2. Drag in your photo. It's cropped to a square from the center. 3. You'll see 9 numbered tiles. 4. Click Save all to download all nine at once.
Posting order matters
Instagram puts your newest post top-left. So post the tiles in reverse number order (or follow the numbering shown, left→right, top→bottom). The safest approach:
- Save all 9 tiles first.
- Then upload them back-to-back in the correct order.
Tips
- Landscapes, patterns, and typography work better than portraits.
- The tool also supports 2×2 and 4×4 splits for bigger grids.
