Extract Pages From a PDF — Send Only What Needs to Be Read

A forty-page contract when they only asked for the appendix. A full year of statements when one month was requested. A complete case file when three pages concern the person you are sending it to.

Pulling out the pages you need takes seconds, and it is nearly always better than sending the whole thing — not just as a courtesy to the reader.

Extract rather than delete

Both approaches produce the same final file. What differs is how likely you are to get it wrong.

Say you have a ten-page document and want to keep pages 3 and 4:

More numbers means more chances to slip. And the mistakes are not equivalent. Miss a page you meant to delete and you have sent someone a page they were never supposed to see. Get an extraction wrong and you just have an incomplete file, which you redo.

So the rule is simple: if you are keeping less than half the document, extract. Otherwise use PDF page remover.

How to do it

1. Open PDF page extractor and choose your file. 2. Enter the pages you want to keep. 3. Extract and download the new file.

Your original is untouched — it stays on your disk exactly as it was, and the extracted file appears alongside it.

Writing a page range

InputResult
3page 3 only
1,3,5pages 1, 3 and 5
5-8pages 5 through 8
1,3,5-8combinations work

The numbers are positions in the original file, exactly as your viewer shows them. There is no shifting to account for.

One trap worth knowing: the number printed on the page does not always match its position in the file. A report with an unnumbered cover and contents page may show "page 1" on the third sheet of the PDF. What counts is the position, not what is printed in the footer. Check your viewer's page counter before typing.

What survives

Text stays text. It remains selectable, copyable and searchable. That is the crucial difference from converting pages to images, which flattens everything into pixels and makes the document unusable with a screen reader.

Layout, fonts and images are unchanged. Pages are copied as they are, with no re-encoding and no quality loss.

What does break: links in a table of contents that pointed to pages you did not extract now go nowhere. On a long document with a clickable contents page, click through it once before sending.

Two checks before you send

File size may not drop as much as you expect. Fonts and other document-wide resources do not disappear just because you removed pages. If you are up against an attachment limit, follow up with PDF compressor.

Extracting hides nothing inside a page you kept. If a page you are keeping contains a line that should not be visible, drawing a black box over it does not remove the text — it stays selectable underneath. This is the cause of a long list of document leaks, including several by law firms and government agencies. To genuinely remove information, delete it in the source document and export the PDF again.

It runs in your browser

Processing is entirely local; your file is not uploaded. This is exactly the category of document — contracts, payslips, medical records — that does not belong on the server of a free service whose retention policy you have not read.

Password-protected PDFs need to be unlocked first: open the file in your PDF reader, save an unprotected copy, and use that one.
